Mathematics Strategies

Outcome:
By June of 2024, students with Disabilities will increase their pass rate for their math SOL by 10% to achieve 63%.

Strategies:

  • Using the Engagement Model for classroom instruction to support Tier 1 interventions.
  • Use data to develop Tier 2 interventions for reteaching and reassessment and document them in SIS.
  • Address the gaps in basic skills for those students requiring Tier 3 interventions.

Science Strategies

Outcome:
By June of 2024, MVHS will meet accreditation in Science by earning a 70% pass rate on Science SOLs as measured by either the current year pass rate (23-24) or the three-year cumulative rate (21-22, 22-23, 23-24), whichever is higher. Additionally, students with disabilities and English Language Learners will increase their science SOL score by 5% or greater.

Strategies

  • Increase opportunities to apply and demonstrate understanding of vocabulary through evidence-based arguments and reasoning.
  • Increase opportunities for students to generate questions that drive inquiry-based learning.
  • Increase opportunities for students to develop and apply disciplinary literacy skills of reading, writing, critical thinking, and discourse.

Chronic Absenteeism

Outcome:
By the end of June 2024, MVHS will decrease chronic absenteeism by 5%.

Strategies:

  • Strengthening messaging to staff, students and families around attendance to school. Each stakeholder should be able to understand how daily attendance matters, not only for academic success, but because school offers an opportunity to develop social and emotional skills such as listening, paying attention, problem-solving and self-regulation, all which are needed to grow and learn.
  • Increase opportunities for personalized early attendance outreach.
  • Create a school culture of engagement and belonging for students and families. Every staff, student and family will feel safe and connected to the school community.

High School Performance in Coursework

Outcome:
By June of 2024,  the number of MVHS students achieving an end-of-course grade of A, B, or C will increase at least 5% from 87.5% to 92.5%.

Strategies

  • Improve student engagement through consistent rigorous and relevant learning experience.
  • Increase student course success through Tier 2 Interventions.
  • Expand culture of shared responsibility where collaborative teams ensure the learning of every student.

High School Progress to Advanced Coursework

Outcome:
By June of 2024, the percentage of students (grades 9-11) successfully completing advanced academic coursework will increase 21%, from 54% to 75%.

Strategies

  • Increase instruction that focuses on student growth rather than meeting minimal proficiency standards.
  • Monitor student data and use data to determine need for intervention and additional support.
  • Increase check-ins using coaching strategies to guide and support students through learning experiences.
