Fueling our Future!
March is National Nutrition Month! The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics creates an annual campaign designed to support healthy eating, creating physical activity habits and much more. This year’s theme is “Fuel for the Future.”
In honor of this month-long celebration, we want to show our appreciation to members of the Mount Vernon High School (MVHS) Cafeteria staff for their continuous support of our community and many others beyond our cafeteria walls.
Each school day, our crew prepares breakfast and lunch service for the entire student body. On average, over 1,000 meals are readied to keep our students energized throughout the day. But meal services are not just for MVHS. Members of the crew are a part of an extended support system which helps other schools with their day to day food operations.
MVHS is one of seven central kitchens within the FCPS designed to support other schools with their daily food operations. In addition to its own meals, the MVHS Cafeteria prepares food for 21 neighboring schools. Meals are cooked, organized and shipped to surrounding schools prior to each day’s scheduled meal service. Upon delivery to their final destination, the recipient school cafeteria staff make several additional preparations in order to complete their own food service needs.
Pizza, burgers and Sweet Sour Chicken are student favorites and these items are just one facet of this team’s daily cooking operation. The staff also preps after school program snacks and meals for At-Risk Students for designated neighboring schools.
To our cafeteria staff, “You are appreciated!” Thank you for all that you do to support our students and the students in our surrounding communities. We recognize each of you for helping to provide students with “Fuel for the Future”.
