MVHS Wins Prestigious Blue Ribbon Award from Virginia Music Educators Association
The Mount Vernon High School Music Department has been awarded the "Blue Ribbon Award" from the Virginia Music Educators Association. This distinction is presented to high school music programs in the Commonwealth whose top groups from all three music disciplines (band, orchestra and chorus) earn an overall Superior ranking during district concert assessments.
The MVHS Sinfonia Orchestra (Intermediate Ensemble) scored a rating of "Excellent" from all judges for their stage performance and earned a "Superior" rating in the sight reading room. Our Chamber Orchestra (Advanced Ensemble) earned Straight Ones (1s) which equates to a "Superior" rating from all judges based on the stage and the sight reading room.
The achievement of the orchestra coupled with the "Superior" ratings earned by the MVHS Symphonic Winds (Band) and the MVHS Madrigal Singers (Chorus) led to this monumental distinction.
Congratulations to our Major Musicians and our outstanding teachers who supported this huge task, Richard Bacz (Band), Kevin Lackie (Chorus) and Alberto Rodriguez (Orchestra).
