Academic Advising

Academic Advising season is just around the corner!

Our school counselors have begun meeting with students for grade level pre-advising lessons and we know that all families are eager to learn more about the course selection process and course options for next school year.  Academic Advising has four major components:

  1. Pre-Advising Grade Level Meetings:  Counselors will meet with students in groups for a quick overview of the process, graduation requirements for their class and introduce them to various elective options.

  2. Course Exploration:  Students with the support of their parents/guardians will explore courses for next school year. Use the resources on this website as well as your teachers and counselors for guidance and support.

  3. Course Selection:  This year, Mount Vernon HS will be using the online course request feature available in StudentVUE.  Once students have completed pre-advising with their school counselor, they may login to StudentVUE and begin to select courses by clicking on the “Course Request” tab.  This feature allows students to enter their courses prior to meeting with their school counselor, maximizing the time they have during individual academic advising.

  4. Counselor Meetings:  Each student will have the opportunity to meet individually with their school counselor to review course selections, graduation plans and to address any questions or concerns.
