Congratulations to Social Worker Katie Basinski who was recognized in the "Impact on Others" category at the 2018 FCPS Excellence Awards Ceremony!

The FCPS Excellence event was held at Fairfax High School on October 16 and was attended by Superintendent Dr. Scott Brabrand, members of the FCPS Leadership Team, members of the FCPS School Board, and other distinguished guests. Ms. Basinski was recognized during an informal reception and a formal ceremony. The following excerpt from his nomination packet was read while she received her certificate from Dr. Brabrand, Assistant Superintendent, Region 3 Terry Dade, and members of the School Board.

Ms. Basinski is the social worker at the Mt. Vernon High School Comprehensive Services Site. She initiated Princess for a Night (PFAN) 16 prom seasons ago. Each year Ms. Basinski spends countless hours over many months partnering with school staff, students, local businesses, churches and other community organizations. She organizes donations and displays over 1000 prom dresses, shoes, handbags, jewelry, other accessories, and casual clothes at several locations.  Last year over 350 disadvantaged students attended proms after shopping at no cost to them at multiple PFAN events, or from meeting with Ms. Basinski individually. This project affords students who would not otherwise be able to afford a prom dress the opportunity to attend prom in a beautiful dress and with accessories of their choosing.

Congratulations, Ms. Basinski, and thank you for your commitment to Mount Vernon High School!
